I really want to be a good kid and behave well.
I hate it when people are sad or mad — especially because of me!

If I am having a bad day, please don’t take it personally—I’m not trying to make you mad! I don’t like my bad days either!

I take meds and work hard to learn ways to cope with my autism, mood swings and anxiety, but everyday life can still be a struggle sometimes.

Hi!  I’m Morgan.  I recently graduated from the Monarch Transitional Education Program (MTEP), where I liked to cook and do art. I love to surf the web, and to color with pastels, markers and crayons.

But most of all I love DVD’s, videos ("VHS's"). and Youtube! I like to create my own DVDs of favorite songs and scenes. And I've recently gotten into shooting videos on my new camera and posting them to my own YouTube channel (MorgyK). I carry a portable DVD player like a security blanket—I don’t always watch it, but I need to know it's there.

My hearing is hyper-sensitive, and my brain doesn't filter out background sounds, so I wear headphones to block out noise.  You don’t have to talk loudly for me to hear when I have them on—I still hear everything!

I know it's weird that I am hyper-sensitive to noise, but I like to play 4 or 5 videos all at once. That's my way of controlling my sound input. Life is a cacophony of sound to me anyway -- at least with my videos, it becomes a cacophony of my own choosing!

I get confused if you talk at me fast, and I don’t understand spoken language very well. I do better if you write things down. I do best with pictures and written words combined.

I am happiest with written schedule of what is going to happen. I like to have multiple schedules handy: one for the current time period (like for what is going to happen on an outing), one for the day, and one for the next week or two.

Unless I am feeling ill, if it is on my schedule, I cooperate (even if I am not  too fond of it). Often, if there isn’t a schedule, I will make one myself (or insist on dictating one to you for you to write down on a numbered list).

I also don’t particularly like being told what to do or being bossed (hey, I am a teenager after all...). I far prefer to be the one doing the bossing! (They don't call me Princess for nothin'...).

I admit it - I am always checking to see if I can push the line a wee bit in my favor. But I'm a good sport about it when the rules were very clear, but I get caught out and told to toe the line again.

Meet morgan
