It's All About
MORGAN!
Call Mom!
440-773-5910
With some things (like skim/fat-free milk) brand doesn't matter... But most of Morgan's food choices are highly brand specific. Unfortunately, if you try and slip in an "off" brand, the food item will fall off her list entirely (and frankly the list is too darn short to lose any more items!)
Unfortunately (I am using that word here a lot lol...) her food can not be sourced from one grocery store. There are certain staples that only can be found in one place... Her daily dessert (which you do not want to argue about because at that point she is goofy on sleep meds) is ALWAYS "pink ice cream" (Pierre's Strawberry Sorbet, only found at Heinen's) and "birthday cake" (only found at Giant Eagle's bakery). And just to add a 3rd fun thing into the mix, she's been recently asking for "Cheesy Weezies" again (Dan Dee Corn Twists, which only Marc's now carries... although it looks online like Walmart may have them too...)
NOTE! When Morgan is shopping for Morgan, she will quite happily buy all sorts of fruits, vegetables, juices and off brands, assuring you that yes, she really wants to eat them... Not gonna happen. Only once in the history of Morgan has that actually been the case (after buying [and throwing away] a ton of Tropical TieDye Fruit Roll Ups [rather than the preferred Strawberry Fruit by the Foot and/or Tropical Fruit Gushers] she recently actually ate one.
Woe betide you if these items are not in your cupboard (or freezer, as the case may be)! In any given week, there will be other "must have's" that come and go, but here is the short list of very specific foods you will need on a daily basis:
She has many dishes that have evolved into uniquely "Morganiic" culinary experiences. She also has some persnickety ideas about how certain meals should be laid out (I mean, come on... if you don't put the fast food out in the original packages, how does she know you REALLY got her the right sizes and/or didn't eat some of her french fries while plating it?!)
Morgan tends to eat one thing for a long time. For instance, currently she's on week 10 of "pink cookies for breakfast!" - 3 pink Lofthouse sugar cookies in a bowl as the first "meal" of the day (sometimes that's as late as 5pm). Then one day out of the blue, she'll request something different. (Not new... just a different choice from her "preferred food" list). (Usually, it's when you have just stocked up on a ton of the thing she has been eating, and the thing she is requesting has just expired past its "use by" date in the cupboard...)
Heinz Ketchup
(Note that I picture two... cuz you'll need 'em! When she asks for "Plenty of Ketchup!" she means it!) (All stores thankfully )
Giant Eagle Bakery Cake
Either yellow or white (not "white almond") sheet cake from the display case (sometimes available as 1/2 double layer cake out on the tables) (Only sold at Giant Eagle)
Pierre's Strawberry Sorbet
Not sherbet or ice cream (although Morgan does refer to it as "Pink ice cream"). (Only sold at Heinen's currently)
Loft House Sugar Cookies (Pink)
Only pink sugar cookies (beware evil lookalikes, like peppermint at Christmas time, or Strawberry in the summer - those are totally "un-acceppable" lol) (Giant Eagle and/or Marc's)
Tyson Anytizers Popcorn Chicken
The only meat she will eat other than fast food (as if this isn't... but you know what I mean...) (All stores currently)
Mott's Applesauce Strawberry Flavor (in cups)
Absolutely vital - the only way to get her daily meds into her is by hiding the pills into teaspoonfuls of this specific sauce (Giant Eagle or Marc's)
Glorious food - the battleground that is food! Time for another Disclaimer! Yes, her diet SUCKS. I swear - as a baby she ate homemade organic baby food that I lovingly pureed myself... Now, if I am really lucky (and wily) I can keep her down to 3 fast food trips a week (she'd eat it exclusively if she could). I am happy to go over the (myriad) things we've tried in the past to make this less of a horror show. But for these purposes, this is how it really is (not how I wish it was...)
